Crewe Group's Family History Unit

Easter 2013
The Unit will be closed on Monday 1st. April

Crewe Group publications for purchase can be viewed by clicking on the 'Available Resources' button The publications relate to Crewe and the immediate surrounding area.

The list of library resources can be downloaded by clicking on the 'Available Resources' button

If you are travelling any distance to visit then please book a viewer or computer in advance

This Family History Unit is housed within Crewe's Town Library but in a separate room, it is staffed by volunteers from Family History Society of Cheshire.  We relocated here in 2009 from Alsager and are pleased with the response from members.

We have an extensive library with reference materials for the local area (including border counties).  Fiche/film readers are available for use with our holdings which include local Parish Registers and BMD 1900-1950.
There are 4 computers, 2 with Internet Broadband connection which can be used to access 'Free to View' sites.  The other 2 computers can be used with our data discs including local transcriptions.
A booking system is operated with 1hr. slots for computers, fiche and film readers and we would advise anyone travelling large distances to book readers in advance.

In addition to FHSC materials we are guardians ofthe 'Alsager Collection' which includes a photographic and documentary archive which has been donated by local families. The contents are catalogued in the Unit but not listed on this site.

In order to widen our archive we welcome donations to our collection and can arrange to scan photographs.

Duty volunteers are available to advise on the use of the Family History Unit and its resources, tea and coffee making facilities are available.  There are local food outlets in close proximity to the unit
